Border force and immigration workers at Sydney’s International terminal are taking industrial action of the Australian Federal Government’s plans to cut workers’ conditions allowances.
The ABC reports that over the next 10 days, Border Force and Immigration workers at eight international airports around the country will conduct stop-work action for four hours daily.
In Sydney, passengers are already being confronted by delays and long queues in the terminal.
Nadine Flood, National Secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union, states that the federal government’s plan to cut the allowances of workers will see their wages being severely cut.
“Border Force and Immigration do a very tough job, often a difficult and dangerous job. They deal with bikie gangs, ice importation, guns, organised crime.”
