Papua New Guinea sprint sensation, Toea Wisil, was in the country to witness the third Southern Regional Athletics Championships held last weekend at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
Toea’s presence was a morale booster for the young athletes, and she believes that PNG has great potential on the track.
It was a feeling of deja vu for the queen of the track after a successful Pacific Games campaign at the very same venue. Wisil credited her success to similar events which gave her the big break she needed to excel.
She said this was her second time to witness the Southern Regional Championships, which has exposed a lot of raw talent.
Wisil believes with the right coaches and mentoring young athletes will go far.
She is pleased to see former athletes like Mae Koime taking the challenge to develop athletics in PNG. Wisil also said with world class facilities now available, she is encouraging athletes to utilise them to improve their skills.
