Winner Takes All, Both Sides Top Of Conferences in Telikom NSL

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

PKA Rapatona claimed their first victory in the Telikom NSL finals stage, with a narrow one-nil victory over Welgris Morobe United, in Port Moresby.

But the major talking point was the match at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae, between Hekari United and Lae City Dwellers.

Both sides had been expected to draw a capacity audience and they did just that.

The match showcasing the epitome of talent in the NSL as easily 15 members of the PNG national team had taken the pitch respectively for their teams.

In Port Moresby, Rapatona secured a much needed victory over Welgris Morobe United, with the sole goal of the match coming from PKA defender, Philip Steven.

This Wednesday will see Rapatona travel to Lae for the first time, as they meet Lae City Dwellers. It will be a difficult match, as they had a five goal deficit against the champions, and playing against a vocal home crowd will be a big test for Rapatona.

Hekari returns to Port Moresby, and meet Welgris Morobe United, whom they previously defeated by 2 goals to 1 and will be expected to close off that match with a win.

Current standings in the NSL see Lae City on top with ten points, equal with Hekari, but with a better goal difference, while Rapatona are in third place, and Welgris, at the bottom of the top four.
