Western Province Governor, Ati Wobiro has refuted allegations made against him by the three Western Province MP’s, which led to his arrest yesterday.
Governor Wobiro clarified that he had no part in the set–up of the NGO group, Fly Care Foundation, which was established to deliver services to disadvantaged areas of Daru.
It was alleged that Governor Wobiro signed an MOU with a businessman in Daru in 2013, to use a percentage of funds from his PSIP and LLGSIP to be paid into Fly Care Foundation.
In a news conference this morning, Governor Wobiro and members of his provincial executive council were present to clarify the matter.
This is the Governor’s second time to be arrested by police, but he says in all his arrests, he has cleared his name.
A confident Governor Wobiro out rightly said he had nothing to do with the set-up of the NGO. Governor Wobiro said as a mandate under the Public Private Partnership Act, Fly Care Foundation was engaged to deliver much needed community services in Daru.
He claims the whole matter has been politically motivated and has urged all leaders from Western Province to put their differences aside and develop a province that has most of its funds locked up with the Courts Trust accounts due to various on-going court battles.
Governor Wobiro was charged with four counts to defraud the state; and misappropriation of K7 million from the Western Provincial Government. His first mention in this latest arrest is scheduled for this Friday.
