West Sepik Governor wants the Sepik Highway to be Extended from Wewak to Lumi

By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EMTV News

West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou wants development partners to extend and maintain the Sepik Highway from Wewak to Lumi.

Governor Wouwou says road works must not stop in Maprik, continue to connect both East and West.

He says the road will serve nearly half a million people in both East and West Sepik.

Speaking in Port Moresby, West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou expressed his concerns of the stretch of the Sepik Highway proposed by the O’Neill-Abel Government.

Governor Wouwou says the road must not stop in Maprik, but continue to Lumi.

The Sepik Highway will begin in Wewak and stretch inland connecting the East and West Sepik.

About 5 Districts in Central Sepik will benefit from the road connection.

But Governor Wouwou wants clarification from donor partners and the Government.

The Australian Government has funded K20 million for this road under its Transport Sector Support Program.

The Sepik Highway is one of the priority areas of the current Government regime to connect missing links.

The production of cocoa and vanilla farming is expected to reach new heights once this national highway is completed.
