Usino-Bundi Youths Into Rugby League

Youths in the Lower Usino-Bundi District in Madang are now focusing on establishing a semiprofessional Rugby League competition in the electorate.

Over the weekend, local MP, Anthon Yagama visited the district and issued uniforms to clubs to help support the code.

In his speech, Mr. Yagama stated that if youths are serious with the game, he can organize for a sports clinic where specialized trainers go to Bundi to teach players how to play well, by showing them the finer points of the game. He also urged them to start playing professionally.

Mr Yagama’s vision is to make simple rugby league players in his district be professional national and international players. Currently, the Usino-Bundi district has four areas participating in tournaments.

He then presented K10, 000 to boost rugby league in the district for men and women as well.

Similar approach is taking place in Lower Bundi, Walium and Ramu Sugar areas of the district to turn youths away from homebrew consumption, illicit materials use, and petty crime.
