The PNG Pukpuks will return to the country with their heads held high despite bowing out of medal contention in Glasgow.
Earning a victorious win over Malaysia, the Pukpuks lost the next two games against Samoa and Wales, who later went on to play Australia in the semi-finals.
New Zealand, the favoured team to win gold at the Commonwealth Games in sevens rugby, fell short of a victory against the South African Springboks, who went on to win gold.
Placed in a challenging pool, the PNG Pukpuks gave their all in all three games.
The Pukpuks lost to Samoa, 5 tries to 2, with Billy Torea and Hensley Peter scoring the only tries for PNG. Building on their loss, they earned a smashing victory against Malaysia, 33 points to 7, only to face a devastating loss to the 8th IRB-ranked Wales, 29-7.
Following their preliminary matches, the Pukpuks lost to Cook Islands in the bowl semi-finals.
With the ACT Brumbies partnership and a young player combination, the Pukpuks have gained much experience and exposure and will prepare for upcoming 7’s tournaMen’s and the 2015 Pacific Games.
