The PNG women’s soccer team is preparing to win their fourth gold medal at the Pacific Games to earn a spot in the Olympic qualifier, starting with their 18-day tour to South East Asia, where they will play four matches.
They leave on the 28th of February to Singapore and will play Singapore’s national team on the 4th and 6th of March.
They then will travel to Bangkok and go up against Thailand on the 11th and 14th and return home on the 16th of March. Coach Gary Philips, who helped PNG’secure a spot behind New Zealand at the OFC Nations Cup in Kokopo last year, said it will be are great opportunity to play against countries competing at that level.
He also said the tour will be a challenge, with Thailand well-advanced in preparations for the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada.
The team has shown that they could be gold medal contenders in the Pacific Games and are focused to do well.
