Papua New Guinea’s U18 Basketballers will be travelling to Fiji for the U18 Oceania Championships in December, for the first time, and players were shocked to hear their names announced to be in the national side for 2016.
Basketball PNG executive Officer, Joel Khalu, says selected players around the country will be flown into Port Moresby, where they will go through a high level, intensive training, in preparations for the games.
All players will meet in Port Moresby and go through a 7 week training program, before they leave Port Moresby for Fiji.
He said the U18 men’s and women’s this year, more national championships are expected to be held in Port Moresby, to recognise other talents in their respective age groups. This will include hosting national championships for both U15 and U17 before the federation prepares to host the U15 Oceania Championships in 2018.
