The Tuition Fee Free Policy has remained a challenge for Holy Cross Nissan High School in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
On Nissa island, the Head Teacher, Alfred Sagolo, told EMTV News that the school is struggling, because of its isolation.
The school is located north east of Buka, and is one of the isolated islands of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Because of this, Nissan Island can only be accessed by mode of sea transport.
However, when EMTV News spoke to Mr Sagolo about the effectiveness of the TFF Funds, he said that it’s a real struggle.
“In our school, we are struggling because this school is isolated and the costs of goods in Buka is very high.”
The little funds the school does receive is well managed to cater for the 190 students.
The school ensures there’s enough food ration and fuel for their power supply.
However, more funds are needed for curriculum materials and maintenance on buildings.
“TFF Funds are insufficient to run this school,” says Sagolo. He called on the National Government to ensure that services are equally shared for the future of this country.
“We have to ensure students enjoy and excel in their studies.”
