PNG Olympic Committee President, Sir John Dawanincura, is appealing to PNG’s corporate sector to get behind the Trukai Fun Run Auction.
“The auction is a very valuable financial support to Team PNG and our Olympic campaign. It is our main fundraising vehicle and this is why we call on corporate PNG to again show their national colours and support us through attending these events.”
The first auction commenced last night at the Lae Yacht Club, with another to be hosted today in Port Moresby.
The business community will have the chance to bid for this year’s official 2016 Trukai Fun Run T-shirt.
Funds raised from the auction will sponsor Team PNG n their quest to travel to major international competitions.
This year’s funds will assist athletes heading to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August.
Successful bidders will be given the chance to feature their logo on this year’s fun run t-shirt.
Trukai is providing 100,000 shirts for the fun run this year, which will feature the Cancer Council’s message of ‘Protect Your Family from Cancer. Eat Healthy and Exercise Regularly’.
The top five bidders will be rewarded with return airline tickets to Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, Hong Kong and Cairns courtesy of Air Niugini.
Given the extremely supportive response from businesses to last year’s auction, Sir John said he expects a mix of previous and first time bidders this year.
“Both Trukai and the PNGOC are grateful to business houses, that continue to support this event for many years. Without your support, we would not be able to send Team PNG to these various competitions,” he said.
