By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News,  Port Moresby

The Waigani Committal Court has given police two months to investigate allegations of misappropriation against former National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent, Andy Bawa.

Bawa appeared with his lawyer before Senior Magistrate Cosmas Bidar for mention this morning.

The former NCD Metropolitan Superintendent was arrested on Tuesday, this week. He was charged with two counts of stealing and abuse of office.

It was alleged that between August 4 and September 30 in 2015, Bawa stole over K80,000 allocated for security operations during the 2015 Pacific Games.

On the second charge, Bawa was accused to have received an allowance from a provincial administrator but failed to account for that money.

That money was also allocated for the Pacific Games.

Magistrate Bidar explained to Bawa the two charges and said at the moment the misappropriations are only allegations, and therefore gave police two months to conduct full investigations.
