The 4th Transport Sector Support Program (TSSP) instrument signing today in Port Moresby will boost capacity building in the transport sector.
The arrangement marks Department of Works and the Australian Government’s long term arrangement for Australia’s technical support to the department.
It will focus on improving and maintaining road networks in the country.
Representing the government was Department of Works Secretary David Wereh, Civil Aviation Authority Secretary Captain Ted Pakii, and Transport Department Secretary Roy Mumu. Australian High Commissioner Counsellor Benedict David signed on behalf of AusAID.
Works Minister Francis Awesa says government focus with developing partners like AusAID is to upgrade missing links.
So far 290 km has been rehabilitated and more than 2,800 km maintained in 12 provinces.
Highlighted was the continued development of transport infrastructure in Oro, Manus and Bougainville and scoping work of the Madang-Ramu Highway.
The agreement comes into effect today and will be valid until November 30th 2019.
