Tuition Fee Free To Schools

Acting Education Secretary, Dr. Uke Kombra, has reaffirmed that schools that are yet to receive their Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funds will receive their components this week.

He said the department is running behind schedule.

Dr. Kombra is also advising those schools that are yet to collect their payments to manage the limited funds they have wisely while waiting for this terms payment.

This year’s TFF budget set by the national government is K602 million. So far the government has paid out K301 million.

According to Dr. Kombra the funds are now paid on a quarterly basis and not in lump sum payments as in previous years.

Dr. Kombra explained that the department is experiencing cash flow problems and as a result they are two weeks behind schedule.

The primary schools component was released to commercial banks last Thursday.

The funds are expected to have been deposited into the school accounts this week.

Two weeks ago, most schools in Lae had to send their students home after TFF funds were delayed.
