By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The death of a student at Saint Mary’s Turingi Primary School in East Sepik Province, is a reminder of great parental responsibilities.

Head Teacher, Dominic Sariwa told EMTV News, the school was saddened, after learning the deceased was not brought for medical treatment on time that resulted on his death.

EMTV caught up with Mr Sariwa during a visit on Wednesday last week, where we had a stopover when we saw students carrying a casket in a procession.

After enquiring, EMTV was told the deceased, a grade five student; Malachi Imrik passed away on Tuesday from illness.

I was saddened to hear about his death that raised concerns on parental responsibilities.

Head Teacher, Dominic Sariwa claimed the student died because of negligence.

“Parents must take full responsibility, in making sure that children are healthy etc,”.

The students’ death last week was shocking and uncalled for, when term one of the academic year has ended.

It’s a matter of concern, and Sariwa said for parents and guardians to seriously consider and to ensure that their children are healthy.

“Children are priority and called on parents and guardians to be more responsible,” Sariwa said.
