The NCD Taekwondo challenge got off to a great start on Saturday, over the weekend, with up to 100 young fighters taking center stage representing their local clubs.
Fighters from within NCD and Rigo are vying for a spot in the National Team as a lead up to the 2015 Pacific Games.
Participants packed the Murray Barracks Gym hall the venue of the NCD Taekwondo challenge hosted by Stone’s Taekowndo.
Fighters were cheered on by these exciting crowd mostly made up of teenage participants who have shown a keen interest in the sport.
Gordon Dala from the Erima Taekwondo club went into the ring with all guns blazing as he took on Gabriel Oa from the Shaolim Boroko Taekwondo club.
In another sparring round, Boroko Taekwondo club’s Sorah Sakai won on split decision against Rigo’s Lenny Kila.
Lenny Kila a green belt from the Rigo club had the upper hand in this sparring contest but it was young Sorah Sakai who stuck to the fight only with his white belt.
Clubs from Tokarara, Hohola, Motu Koitabu, and Jaugere took part in the two day event which is aimed at driving drugs out of the country starting with the youths.
