Introduced two years ago in Papua New Guinea, the National Toothbrushing day was celebrated today at the Ted Diro Primary School.
Students were educated on the importance of brushing their teeth through an initiative by Colgate Palmolive Limited and the National Health Department.
Oral health in Papua New Guinea has been neglected over the years.
Statistics show that there are more mobile phones in use every day in the country compared to that of Papua New Guineans using toothbrushes.
Dental Professionals have confirmed that brushing our teeth at least two times a day with fluoride toothpaste, keeps our teeth and gums healthy and prevents tooth decay.
Today, Colgate Pamolive and students at the Ted Diro elementary and primary school celebrated National Toothbrushing Day.
The National Toothbrushing day was launched in PNG in 2012 by Colgate Pamolive, with the aim to create and increase the awareness on the importance of toothbrushing.
The event has mostly targeted primary schools, however, this year, 69 schools and over 70 corporate houses, organizations and communities have joined.
Over 60, 000 people all over the country participated in the event today.
