Stop the Killing of West Papuans, Namah says

By Stanley Ove Jnr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Belden Namah, Vanimo Green MP, has made a strong stand against the killings of West Papuans in Indonesia.

The MP says with Vanimo being the border town of the country, the issue of West Papua must not be ignored by the national government. He said that the lives of Papua New Guineans are at risk, as they travel to and from the Wutung Border Post.

He said that the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Peter O&rsquO’Neill, must now send a strong statement to Indonesia, over the killings of West Papuans.

Namah, in a press conference on Friday afternoon, said the national government must send a strong statement to the Indonesian Government to condemn the killings of innocent West Papuans.

Two weeks ago, Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill shed light on the issue, saying Papua New Guinea must be a leader in the Pacific on issues such as the West Papuans fight for freedom.

Moreover Mr Namah said a diplomatic approach must be carried out between the two governments to stop the continuous killings of West Papuans.

In the meantime, the MP has called on the national government to tighten up the border development authority. He added the government must concentrate to build infrastructures along the border to beef up security for Papua New Guineans and their land.
