Withthe decider in Origin days away, people of Tari inthe new Hela Province reflected on a game related death in Port Moresby.
27 year old Abel Thomas was apparently killed after an argument duringthe second same.
Atthe foothills of North Waigani inthe nation’s capital on Thursday relatives ofthe late Abel Thomas performedtheir traditional rituals prior to handing downtheir compensation demands.
It was a loss to this community from Tari, asthe deceased was a well – educated person, having a Bechelor’s Degree in Communications fromthe University of Technology prior to his death. Therefore,the compensation demand stood at K1.1million.
The incident took place onthe night of June 26th duringthe second State of Origin Match when Abel Thomas was murdered by a known suspect. His body was found four days later atthe Port Moresby General Hospital Morgue. The relatives wanttheir demands met by Amos Pako sothey can sendthe body home for proper burial.
Waigani Police confirmed thatthey are aware ofthe situation asthe matter is now beforethe NCD Mediation Unit. Betthey maintained that compensation demands are not encouraged inthe city.
