The popular Ela Beach in Port Moresby was a hive of activity yesterday (Sunday, November 11), just days away from the start of the final APEC Leaders Week.
Among the hustle and bustle, two Chilean carvers were working on a masterpiece that will be displayed later this week; Chile will be the host of APEC in 2019.

Among the busyness, two Chilean carvers, working on something special – a totem that will be unveiled this week during the final week of APEC Meetings.
Starting at around 10am on Sunday morning, the two carvers wooed the crowd with their carving skills, using chainsaws to carve out the initial pieces from a large chunk of wood.
With Chile the next host of APEC, these two gentlemen were flown in to produce something special for PNG, to signify the handover APEC meeting responsibilities to their country.
Work on their masterpiece will be completed by Tuesday, and handed over to PNG to be placed at a site that is yet to be confirmed.
Closer to APEC Haus, members of the Joint Securities Task Force were cordoning off the area, in preparation for the commencement of official engagements for this final week of meetings.
The area close to APEC Haus will be restricted for the next week, with security expected to be on a level not yet witnessed in PNG’s history.
