Port Moresby’s Kone Tigers Oval, is set to host the Southern Confederate Zone Trials, with six provincial and district teams, registered to take part.
The zone trials for the southern confederate will see teams coming from Milne Bay, Oro, Gulf, Western, the Central Province and select sides from the National Capital District.
Divisions will include, an 18, 20, women’s and senior men’s, with Southern Confederate Chairman, Gwaibo Mairi, happy with preparations so far.
These preparations have included a three day up-skilling workshop for coaches, referees and technical officials, directly leading into competition.
These trials also give an opportunity for administrators, such as Billy Aki, President of the NCD Suburban League, to showcase their hospitality. Aki, who has been an advocate of rugby league development throughout the national capital, is also thankful for the opportunity provided at hand.
With the unavailability of the SP Hunters during the month of September, these trials, offer an opportunity for many of Papua New Guinea’s newest talent.
Conclusion of the Southern confederation trials will see the other three regions host their own, and many of these players will be vying for that coveted Kumul jersey.
The trials will begin on the 10 August and end on the 14 August.
