The 2015 Human Rights Watch World Report described Papua New Guinea as one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a woman.
However, this story paints a different picture of violence in the country.
Thomas Otoase, from the Gulf Province, has been subjected to domestic violence from his biological son, Captain Peter Otoase, a PNG Defense Force intelligence captain.
Thomas Otoase, has been living in fear and under threst since 2011.
He has been subjected to constant beatings by his son, for breaking up with his wife.
Last week Friday, Captain Otoase was arrested and charged for grievous bodily harm by the Hohola Police after he broke his father’s mouth.
Captain Otoase is currently out on a K500 bail, and awaits appearance in the district court.
