Southern Highlands Province needs more capacity building within its Disaster Office.
Provincial Disaster Advisor, Martin Pat says the Provincial Government must address this as the province is prone to disasters.
Mr Pat highlighted this after evidence of poor coordination among some district officers and the disaster centre.
Pat told EM TV News; more improvement in equipping the Provincial Disaster office is needed.
Mr Pat says, the Provincial Government must seriously boost the provincial disaster office to prepare officers in handling the situation in the likely event or during any disaster.
“We have funding and these funding can be used to build the human resource in disaster preparedness and other related issues,” Pat said.
This year, frost was experienced which severely affected over 200,000 people in four districts of the province.
This moved Ialibu Pangia MP and Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill to visit the districts and identify the scale of damaged caused.
In the meantime, three districts in Southern Highlands are still waiting for relief distribution.
