The Papua New Guinea Defence Force will have no excuse with the upkeep and cleanliness of the barracks, now that it has received six, brand new ride-on mowers from the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill.
Commander of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo says, the donation is in line with PNGDF’s plans to rehabilitate the barracks.
Toropo said the six ride-on mowers will be distributed to all four Port Moresby based units and the other two will be given to northern military units.
The mowers were purchased by the prime minister’s office at a cost of one hundred and fifty thousand kina at Farm Set Limited, in Port Moresby.
Unit commanders have been urged to take full ownership in tending to the lawns of respective barracks’ and to keep the grass, short at all times.
Toropo said, keeping the grass short at the barracks has been lacking over the years due to shortage in machineries such as lawn mowers.
Member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko, has also pledged K100 000 towards Taurama Barracks to revive its beautification program.
