Radio great Kasty Arifeae is the first celebrity to begin the Shave, Trim or Die Your Hair Cancer campaign organised by Hospital Poroman Foundation.

Shaving-off his hair collects a sum of K20,000 for the fundraising campaign to assist cancer patients in the country.

Hospital Poroman Foundation Founder, Janet Sios, more effort is needed to reduce cancer risk and save lives.

“We have a lot to do and this initiative is an opportunity to help those suffering from cancer,” Sios said.

The funds raised will go towards supporting cancer patients and medical professionals in PNG to prevent, detect and treat cancer and advocate for cancer control and for persons diagnosed with cancer.

PNG still lacks treatment facilities, despite cancer units being in Port Moresby and Lae.

Statistics by the Health Department see an overwhelming increase in cancer patients in Papua New Guinea

Lifestyle diseases have been the main contributing factor.

“If we cannot do anything, joining such campaign is best one can do to help those in need and push the fundraising drive forward,” said Kasty Arifeae.

The major event for the Shave, Trim or Die Your Hair campaign will be held tomorrow in Port Moresby.
