Quality Secondary Education Commitment Signed

The Joined Public Statement of Commitment on Quality Secondary Education has been signed atthe Governors' EducationInvestment Summit in Port Moresby.

This wasthe high topic discussed by Governors, Provincial Administrators and Provincial Education Advisors hosted bythe National Capital District.

The Deputy Prime Ministersaidthere is an urgent need to expand access to quality secondary education in allthe provinces. He saidthe number of students’missing out on tertiary education annually is a serious concern.

The Acting Education Minister, James Marape, said 600 spaces will be created in all secondary schools by 2014. Half of this will be occuplied by girls for gender equality. Mr Marape’said achieving this target will improverthe national transition rate from Grade 8 to Grade Nine from 54 to 70 percent

Marape renewedthe National Government commitmentoto improver access and provide quality education and training.
