The PNG Pukpuks have returned from Auckland with four casualties.
Emmanuel Guise and Billy Torea, who both returned to the national team after a year’s suspension, will be sidelined due to injuries sustained over the weekend, as well as PNG’s speedster Arthur ‘Archie’ Clement.
The team also lost Wesley Vali for the entire tournament due to a suspension imposed by the judiciary.
Although falling short of a 2016 Rio Olympic appearance, the PNG Pukpuks secured a spot in the HSBC Hong Kong 7s, in the World Sevens Series Circuit – something coach Douglas Guise believed was well within reach.
Senior Pukpuk Butler Morris, also relayed the same message, saying that he was impressed with the team’s effort over the two day tournament.
Morris however believes their participation in international tournaments has highlighted there lack of size and strength. Still on areas of improvement, Guise has said the team will also need to address the strength and conditioning element of training, having returned with four injuries.
