Public Put out Fire at Port Moresby Medical Service

By Adelaide Sirox Kari – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Fire services responded late to an incident at the Port Moresby Medical Service in Boroko, on Thursday.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The actions of neighbours and bystanders while waiting for fire services to respond could be the only reason why nearby properties were not damaged.

Between all the confusion, staff say they had to drive to the fire station to alarm fire marshals after making several calls to Boroko Fire Service. However, found out that the fire truck had mechanical problems, and the Waigani Fire Service would attend to it.

Meanwhile, back at the medical centre that houses highly flammable objects like oxygen tanks, brave neighbours and bystanders worked out a mechanism to put out the fire.

Marshals from the Waigani Fire Service arrived 40 minutes later to put out what remained, however they had issues with their water pump and a water pipe had to be used.
