The Public Curator fromthe Department of Justice and Attorney General Jacob Popuna has called on fellow tribesman in Western Highlands province to acceptthe decisions made bythe electoral commissioner to fail several LLG elections inthe province.

 

On Tuesday last week, local landowners in Mt Hagen blockedthe main road into Hagen Town, to dispute Commissioner Trawen’s decision.

 

Mr Popuna apologized to business houses,the public and institutions that were directly affected bythe reaction.

This message was highlighted duringthe launch ofthe Islands Regional Cricket Tournament inthe Nothern Province bythe NCD Governor, Powes Parkop.

The tournament is sanctioned by CrickePNG to select a team to representthe Islands region inthe upcoming National Championship.

Players and traditional dancers were present to receivethe NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, and Sport Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, upon arrival atthe Girua airport in Popondetta yesterday.

Governor Parkop’stressed that Papua New Guineaneeds elite athletes who can compete atthe highest level. He toldthe provincial sports executives to take ownership oftheir sports programs and invest inthe youths through sports as a means to encouragethem to become better citizens.

Funding of K130, 000.00 underthe sports enhancement program was used to hostthe cricket tournament.

Sport Minister, Justine Tkatchenko, saidthe government through its sports enhancement program will ensure funding trickles down tothe sub-national level for sport development.

The Nothern Province has come a long way in sports and such a commitment has boostedthe morale of youths.

The participation of women in sports inthe province has also wonthe heart of Sohe member, Delilah Gore.

She urgedthe men to forged stronger partnerships with women through sports to breakdown social issues affecting women.
