The Policeman responsible for the traffic accident last Tuesday (July 24) has been charged and suspended from duties.
Constable Neil Vaimo crashed a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle at around 4 a.m. along the Waigani Drive.
Officer In-charge of Boroko traffic office, Joseph Salle says, “The suspect Constable Neil Vaimo attached to the Boroko Traffic Unit was laid administration charges for negligent driving under Road Traffic Act (RTA),”
He added that another policeman Constable Tutmulai Veneri would also be charged for handing over the vehicle keys to the suspect.
“Mr Vineri was aware that the suspect was on suspension for causing a similar accident in the past but gave him the keys to the vehicle anyway”, says Salle.
The vehicle was recently donated by the Australian Federal Police to assist with the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation (APEC) duties.
Meanwhile, Director of the Police Transport Directorate Superintendent Dennis Corcoran is calling on police in the National Capital District (NCD) and throughout the country to be responsible and take care of the limited police resources.
“We have a limited police budget and insufficient resources so all police assets should be looked after,” Superintendent Corcoran stressed.
