The Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) today saw the promotion of two senior officers to take higher-up offices in the Defence Force hierarchy.
PNGDF Commander, Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo, and Secretary for Defence, Vali Asi, officiated today’s ceremony.
Brigadier General Toropo said the defence force needs good leadership to ensure professionalism in the future of the force.
He added that good leaders are scarce; hence the recent promotions under his command, including the two appointments witnessed today, are a reflection of his confidence and trust in the servicemen who have been appointed.
Newly promoted Colonel Alfred Kayoka, is the new Chief of Plans, replacing retired Colonel Vagi Oala and Colonel Philip Polewara is the new Chief of Training, taking Colonel Raymond Numa’s previous office, who was appointed as Chief of Staff in January.
Commander Toropo now looks forward to accelerated professionalisation within the force following the recent promotions, and trusts his appointees will do a good job at ensuring cooperation in mandated duties, and further contributing to the force reaching its goals in constitutional mandates.
Meanwhile, Secretary for Defence, Vali Asi, urged newly promoted Colonels Kayoka and Polewara to deliver to expectation and high standard.
