PNG Triathletes Return from Pacific Island Championships

Papua New Guinea’s Triathletes have returned to Port Moresby after attending the Pacific Island Championships in Solomon Island.

Fourteen PNG athletes took part in the championships which ran for 5 days.

The PNG team was made up of athletes from Port Moresby, Sepik and New Ireland. The youngest, Jayden James who is 8 years of age, came second in his event.

PNG secured 9 medals at the Championships which also saw them come out on top at the end of the competition.

New Ireland Triathlon President, Andrew Olsen, says with the outstanding performance of the athletes during the championships, they would like to promote the sport in the country and get more people involved.

He also encouraged more females to take part in the sport of triathlon.
