There is a possibility of Papua New Guinea hosting the Commonwealth Games in the near future.
With world class facilities available in the country, the Government will be looking at the bidding process of the Commonwealth games.
Sport Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, in a press conference held this week said they will be looking at the bidding process to host the Commonwealth games.
Papua New Guinea conquered the recently ended Pacific Games, with Athletes performing to the best of their ability.
Athletes from Australia and New Zealand commended on a job well done.
Games venues have been internationally certified, the soccer fields are FIFA accredited, and the basketball and volleyball courts are international standard.
The Pacific Games is different to the commonwealth games; the Commonwealth game is bigger and more complex with nearly twice as many Athletes and Countries taking part.
Papua New Guinea maybe ready to host such a large event which will require more Volunteers and Security personnel’s and with the success of some of PNGs athletes taking out gold and silver at the commonwealth games we can be competitive at this sort of events.
With the many plans put together by the Government for PNG athletes, and the development of PNG sporting facilities, Papua New Guinea may just be able to create History by hosting such an event, and if PNG does secure it, it’s one step closer to one day hosting the Olympic Games.
