PNG to Host 2018 Oceania Swimming Championship

The Oceania swimming championships are held every two years. The Championships are the FINA event for Oceania and currently incorporates Open Water Swimming, Pool Swimming and synchronised swimming.

With the announcement of PNG to host the 2018 Oceania Swimming Championships, President Elizabeth Wells says PNG is ready to host the games withe the availability of world class facilities, like the Aquatic Centre.

With the facilities at hand, Wells said in the lead up to the 2018 Oceania Championships, PNG Swimming Inc is currently running coaching clinics for coaches and technical officials to upgrade their knowledge.

She said between now and 2018, more focus will also be given to the swimmers in motivating them to train hard in the lead up to the games, like they did for the 2015 Pacific Games.

The PNG Government has come on board to sponsor the Oceania Swimming Championships for two years, with K600,000 to get the PNG Swimming Inc ready, to host the 2018 Oceania Swimming Championships.
