PNG Power to Provide Free Connection for Hanuabada Fire Victims

PNG Power Ltd will provide free electricity connection and install Easipay meters into the 23 new houses constructed for the fire victims of Hanuabada village a media release yesterday (May 31) said.

PNG Power Ltd’s Acting Managing Director, Carolyn Blacklock and the Executive Management Team were taken on a tour of the houses by Chairman of the Hanuabada Fire Disaster Appeal Committee, Mr Dadi Toka and Committee member Mr Lohia Samuel on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

A total of 18 houses were completely destroyed and five were partially damaged during a fire on August 17, 2017. The Electrical Contractor has completed wiring to one house today and submitted all relevant documents to the PNG Power Customers Services Office for the Inspectors to carry out inspection before electricity supply will be connected to the houses.

According to the press release, connection to the other houses will follow when the contractor completes the wiring.

“These people were our customers and were enjoying electricity services before their homes were destroyed so we feel obligated to reconnect electricity supply to their new homes.

“We know there are about 100 school age children who have been affected by this disaster and we want to restore electricity supply so that these children can be able to do their studies,” said Ms Blacklock.
