The current karate national train-on squad are preparing for the Pacific Games under the watchful eyes of President, Karl Mari, with the assistance and guidance of Trever Roberts Sensei.
Both male and female athletes, were described as strong, athletic and talented fighters, by Trever Sensei.
In 2012, there was a total of 190 karate athletes, in 2013 the number was reduced to 67 after the national titles; and since last year, the number has dropped to 50.
This year, in March, the squad was cut back down to 42; however, this is not the final national team.
Dominic Sipapi and Doris Karomo, who are also part of the train-on squad, are both training hard with the other athletes, gaining much needed skills and techniques from Trever Sensei.
The final PNG Karate National Team for the Pacific Games will be announced, two weeks before the games.
