PNG women will soon have an international market-place to sell their crafts, sewings and paintings.
Two determined women from YWCA Canberra are in the country for a fact finding mission to establish how they can help rural PNG women sell the work of their hands to international buyers.
Diane Kambanei (in Blue top) and Melissa Burford (White top) are designing a website called the Freedom Marketplace which will be used as a platform to market Pacific women’s products and also act as an avenue for buyers to meet the real people who produce those products.
This program is targeted at empowering women economically and is a common strategy used across the Asia region to market the products of the disadvantaged.
