PNG Basketball gets Recognition from FIBA

By Elijah Lavett – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

PNG Basketball has been recognised for their efforts in developing the code in the country.

They have been invited by FIBA and the International Basketball Federation to attend a Basketball Convention in Australia which will be held over the weekend.

PNG Basketball President Nick Daroa and PNG Basketball Executive officer Steven Damien will be attending the convention in Melbourne, Australia.

President Nick Doroa will be given the opportunity to speak at the convention about how the sport has grown in the country over the past few years.

Mr Doroa says he’s confident and delighted that Basketball PNG has been recognized in the Pacific Region.

There are always difficulties faced in the Association while carrying out clinics and competitions.

The Association has been working hard to overcome these issues which now sees the different basketball programs been carried out in various parts of the country.

“We’ve also taken the programs out to Lae, Kavieng, Mount Hagen, Mendi, so hopefully we are doing enough,” says Mr Doroa.

Doroa also thanked the PNG Basketball Board and volunteers who have been the driving force to its developing and expanding the participation of basketball throughout PNG.

A good example of positive change and expansion of the code would be the increased participation and interest shown in the National All Star Championship that is currently underway.

“I’d like to thank the Baskeball Board here in PNG, the followers, the stakeholders, the volunteers, I’d like to make mention of them.

They’ve done a great, fantastic job helping out with all the running of our clinics,” adds Doroa.
