Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, officially opened the Rita Flynn Courts today.
The Rita Flynn Courts now has nine outdoor netball courts and an indoor complex. The indoor complex houses an additional three indoor courts.
The complex and courts will see its final touches during the week, although neither Sport Minster or the Games Organising Committee have stated the use of the venue for the Games.
Minister for Sport, Justin Tkatchenko, said the opening of the Netball courts puts to rest doubts on its completion before the games.
The court now houses nine fully sealed outdoor courts, an administration block with change rooms and an ample parking space within Bisini parade.
While the indoor complex caters for a café’, additional change rooms and three supplementary courts with retractable seating similar to the designs at the Taurama Aquatic Centre.
Pepes Head Coach, Unaisi Rokoura, says the opening of the courts is a boost to the teams moral and drive to perform on home soil.
Minister for Sport and the Games Organising Committee are yet to state if Rita Flynn Courts will be used during the Games since the scheduled Netball matches have already been released.
While there is work yet to be done inside the complex, the opening of the courts and complex todays plays a major role in boosting the Pepes moral come game time.
