Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill, recently clarified Sumkar MP, Ken Fairweather’s stance as a member of his party.
Mr O&rsquO’Neill was responding to questions raised by the media on whether or not Mr Fairweather was still under the ruling party.
Mr O&rsquO’Neill said that Mr Fairweather was voted as a member of his party but hasn’t been actively involved in their activities. Since day one, Fairweather has been at the Opposition bench.
Ken Fairweather, the local MP for Sumkar, in the Madang Province, is a member of the People’s National Congress (PNC) Party. He has been part of the ruling party since the 2012 National Elections, where he won his seat with 9,624 votes. He was first elected in 2007 as an Independent candidate.
While Fairweather claims to be in the Opposition, the People’s National Congress Party say that they have never received any formal resignation letter of his move.
According to earlier media reports, Fairweather was furious with the O&rsquO’Neill-Dion Government with issues on several projects, like the controversial seabed mining.
Fairweather also expressed his anger about rumours of his move to the Opposition bench.
He stated that he was still in the government of Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill, and still with PNC, and would advise of his move, if any.
