Former students’of Passam National High School have been called upon to assist developthe school which is in a deteriorating state.
Despite development projects carrlied out atthe school, allthe funds have been exhausted and additional funding assistance is urgently needed.
Member for Yangoru-Saussia and Minister for Trade, Commerce andIndustry Richard Maru, and Minister for State Enterprises Ben Micah visitedthe school last week to inspectthe work which has come to a standstill.
That is not substantial enough. And a funding three times that amount is now needed.
“Five million kina is not enough, we need fifteen million kina complete allthese incomplete work, said Nickson Berak, Project Manager – Works Department.
Many prominent Papua New Guineas have graduated from Passam National High. Amongthem include current MinistersRichard Maru, Minister for Treasury Don Polye, and Minister for Environment & Conservation John Pundari.
Minsters Maru and Micah saythey will bring this tothe attention ofthe National Executive Council.
“It’s very unfortunate thatthe previous government relocatedthe schools five million kina and paidthe landowners. Understanding that we have to look afterthem but I’m sorry thatthe education department didn’trsquo;t put any more funding in 2013 budget to allowthe work to continue,” said Maru.
“We’ll see if we can be able to find some savings somewhere to see if we can at least progress some ofthese infrastructure development,” said Minister Micah.
Following years of deterioration caused by destruction atthe hands of students’and locals, Passam National High had closed its doors.
The development projects cover a new classroom, and new separate boys and girl’s dormitory. It also coversthe maintenance of administrative buildings and old classrooms.
It is now a race against time to locatethe funds, and finishthe infrastructure projects beforethe 2014 academic year.
