NCD Governor Powes Parkop has condemnedthe eviction of people residing atthe Arts Centre Settlement in Port Moresby, labeling it a social disaster.
He was disappointed inthe manner in which title holders were removing people without any remorse.
More than four thousand people have been displaced sincethe eviction began last week Friday.
He said developers have to considerthe consequences of such an exercise because it will fall back to him andthe NCDC.
Governor Parkop’said nether he northe Commission were advised of such a mass eviction. He saidthe police acting on a Supreme Court order had not advised him also.
Evicted settlers have statedthey will pursuethe matter in court.
Governor Parkop’says giventhe magnitude ofthe problem, he is willing to financially supportthe settlers whenthe matter is taken to court.
Governor is calling on Moresby North-East Member Labi Amaiu to show lLeadersip and addressthe matter.
