Ottio Returns to Australia

PNG Kumuls and Canberra Raiders recruit, Kato Ottio, flew back to Australia yesterday after spending time with his family in Port Moresby.

Ottio is recovering from a knee injury he picked up in the weeks leading up to the New South Wales Cup finals.

The 22-year-old says his focus now is on rehab, because his doctors have given him seven months, which will see him side-lined for most of the season.

However, the former PNG Hunters back rower is keen on making a speedy recovery, and especially to be available for the Kumuls team next year.

The 191cm tall winger was the top try scorer in the 2016 New South Wales Cup season with 28 tries, but has yet to make an A grade appearance.

It has been a struggle for Ottio, but his plans to impress Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart for a place in the top level has not deteriorated.

Ottio’s two-year contract will end next year.
