Ottio Close to Making Debut

By Elijah Lavett – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

Kato Ottio has impressed the Canberra Raiders squad since he arrived in a train and trial contract late last year. He is close to making a debut with the Raiders after playing with Mounties in the New South Wales Cup.

He secured a two-year contract after a strong pre-season and was rewarded with a spot in the squad for the Auckland Nines. Ottio has lit up the New South Wales Cup with athletic finishes and high takes to score 10 tries in the opening six games for Mounties. Raiders recruitment chief, Peter Mulholland, says his chances of making a debut in the NRL for the Raiders is getting close.

Ottio has been named in the first 13 in all matches played with Mounties, and has shown signs of improvement in every game. He will have to be patient before making a debut in the NRL, and has to work on his defence as a winger, having played in the second-row with the Hunters.

But the Raiders coaching staff are confident in Ottio’s abilities to be called on to play in the NRL team if any injuries arise.
