Oppositionstrongman and member for Kundiawa Gembogl Tobias Kulang said Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has subjectedthe country to international ridicule with its asylum seeker agreement with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
Tobias Kulang said in a media statement on Thursday thatthe mover bythe Prime Minister onthe asylum seeker deal is a threat tPNG’s national security and underminesthe country’s standing inthe region as a sovereign state.
Kulang was adamant that money was not an issue anymore forPNG and questioned O’Neill’s real motives for signingthe agreement.
On his return from Australia, O’Neill had explained thatthe arrangement was not a new one.
“It is not a new concept that has been introduced to Papua New Guinea” said O’Neill.
Mr. Kulang however said, for the Prime Minister to sign an international deal without collective consensus was un-Melanesian and must be condemned.
He said O’Neill’s actions were againstthe intent ofthe constitution where our fore fthers emphatically embraced Christianity asthe official religion ofthe country and will result in negative implications on our social structure, both inthe short and long term.
