Ok Tedi Mining Limited Supports Western

By Meriba Tulo – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The current El Nino weather pattern being experienced in many parts of the country continues to make life difficult for people – Western Province is no exception.

The province’s largest employer, Ok Tedi, had been forced to suspend production mid this year, which placed a further strain on the province.

But despite its forced shutdown, Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has recently announced a funding commitment of K5 million for the purchase of emergency food supplies for people in the Western Province.

According to OTML Managing Director and CEO, Peter Graham, this funding will be channelled through the province’s Interagency Disaster Coordination Committee.

“OTML and Western Province communities have always worked together in times of need and despite our own challenges with operations suspended due to the dry weather, we are pleased to be able to help our neighbours,” he said.
