‘Oi Mai Mosbi’ Campaign

by Delly Waigeno – EM TV, Port Moresby

Thousands turned out at the Jack Pidik Park in Port Moresby today, as Governor of the National Capital District, Powes Parkop, launched the “Oi Mai Mosbi” Campaign.

It is a campaign involving many of the city’s local communities in an attempt to create a safer, cleaner and more vibrant Port Moresby in light of the Pacific Games and other international events to be hosted in the Nation’s Capital.

Thousands braved the Port Moresby Sun this morning to attend the launch of Governor Parkop’s “Oi Mai Mosbi” Campaign.

Most of the participants were from local communities from Moresby South, North East & North West, and from different schools and churches as well. Participants put on dances as part of the event.

“Oi Mai Mosbi” translated from the Motu language; means “Come to Moresby”. The Campaign itself carries an underlying message.

“It’s a campaign to firstly assure the Pacific Games that we are ready to deliver a clean, healthy and safe city. But in the long run, it’s a campaign to make Port Moresby a destiny for investors,” Parkop said.

Governor Parkop said that in the long run, the campaign wants to make Port Moresby a destiny for investors, for athletes, and most importantly for international tourists.

Parkop said, “Tourism is an industry that has a lot of potential for our people. It can create a lot of employment; it can create and generate income for the pockets of our people.”

He said while tourism is a real economic potential for locals to improve their lifestyles, the tainted image of the city is a huge challenge.
