The Nissan Island airstrip has been declared open by the National Civil Aviation Minister, Steven Davis.
The National Minister for Civil Aviation recently visited Nissan Island, while launching the rural airstrips program.
However, National Airport’s Corporation, Chief Operating Officer, Sylvester Kenatsi, says at the meantime, this sector can be operated by twin otter aircraft.
Until when all redevelopment work is completed, then bigger aircrafts like dash 8 can operate this service.
“Nissan Island airstrip is actually 2.2km. Our design will cater for the future demand,” he said.
The National Airports Corporation thanked the people of Nissan for making their time available in ensuring that the area was already cleaned.
“I am so proud of the people of Nissan Island, because they have been responsible in their decisions. This shows that they are hungry for the services,” Kenatsi said.
“Our job now is to look for operators,” he said
