Nominees for Nabak LLG presidential seat by- election in Morobe were drawn today.
The campaigns, which will follow two weeks from now, will see thirteen candidates visiting up to ten wards to conduct their political rallies.
Provincial election manager, Simon Soheke, says K50 000 was provided by provincial government to assist in the by-elections.
However, limited logistics and resources still remains a large area of improvement for the PNGEC.
Nominees’ supporters gathered at Lae’s Huon Development building to witness the draw presented by Morobe’s electoral commission election officers.
Soheke stated that the electoral office in Lae also faces its own funding constraints in election common roll updates, so it has resorted to use 2012 and 13 electoral rolls for this by- election.
According to the returning officer, Fredah Joses, more than 8200 voters in Nabak LLG are expected at the polls in Nawaeb district starting from 18th of June to the 1st of July.
Subsequently 12 months from now, the PNG Electoral Commission will be holding one of its major calendar events all throughout the country, the 2017 national elections.
However, word on the ground from few provincial election officers say, funding for the electoral roll update is still pending from the government.
