President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe, touched down at the Jacksons International airport yesterday afternoon.
His arrival is historical, in that it marks the first visit from a Zimbabwean president to PNG.
Mugabe arrived at 6.30 pm on a privately chartered aircraft Air Zimbabwe.
Accompanied by his wife and Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Grace Mugabe the president disembarked the aircraft to a red carpet welcome on to PNG soil.
He was received by the Minister for National Events, Justin Tkatchenko and Public Service Minister Sir Puka Temu, among other members of Parliament and officers from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The President was quickly escorted away under heavy police security.
President Mugabe and his entourage will be attending the 8th Summit of African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Heads of States and Government along with 78 other ACP developing states for the next two days.
